Today, January 12, the 2025 European Figure Skating Championship, held on the ice of the Tialf arena in Heerenveen, ended.

The men’s race was won by Norwegian Sander Eitrem, who took second place in both races on the second day. Another athlete and Norwegian, Peder Kungshaug, was second, winning the 1,500 meters and sixth in the 1,000 meters. The victory in the “ten” did not help the Italian David Giotto in the fight for bronze – in the end he lost by 0.738 points to Bo Snellinck from the Netherlands.

This victory became historic for the Norwegians. The last time a Norwegian athlete won the European championship in the “classic” more than thirty years ago – Johan Ulov Kos in 1991 in Sarajevo, Bosnia. And the last time the Norwegians made a winning double was in 1980 – at the home European championship in Trondheim, Kai Arne Stensjemmet and Jan Egil Sturholt took the first and second places.

In the women, in the last meters of the 5000 meter race, Antoinette Rypma De Jong won the race, ahead of her compatriot Joy Bjoine by 0.119 points. Third place went to Norway’s Ragne Viklunn, who won two races out of four and was 0.731 points behind Raipma de Jong.

It should be noted that Antoinette Rypma-De Jong became the fourth in history and the first Dutch figure skater to win the European Championship in the “classic” four times in a row. Earlier, this achievement was held by the Germans Andrea Erich (1985-1988), Gundi Niemann (1989-1992) and Anna Friesinger (2002-2005).
