But the 35-year-old needed medical intervention early on after severe knee discomfort triggered a bout of panic disorder.
“I had all the symptoms,” Arnautovic said. “I first felt pain in my knee, then had huge pressure in the upper part of my stomach.
“At the same time I had a panic attack. I felt nauseous and dizzy, and I was scared.
“I have no idea why it happened. Maybe it was connected to the extreme pain in my knee.
“The team doctor took a look at me, and gave me a remedy.
“I carried on playing, and thankfully was OK at the end of the game.”

Austria, managed by ex-Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick, drew their Nations League play-off 1-1.
Michael Gregoritsch gave them a 37th-minute lead, only for Serbia to level just past the hour through Lazar Samardzic.
Arnautovic, a £2m Stoke buy from Werder Bremen in 2013, scored 26 goals in 145 games for the then Premier League side.
The Vienna-born ace however failed to live up to expectations at West Ham, and joined Shanghai SIPG after scoring 22 times in 65 appearances.
