How regular sports support mental health and productivity - says Ruslan TimofeevThe trend on mental health is gaining more and more momentum. Modern people care about mental health no less than physical health, seeking help from psychotherapists and taking psychotherapy courses.

Although our thoughts and feelings may seem immaterial, they are driven by complex biological processes. Mental health is closely related to physical health, and therefore emotional well-being also depends on the condition of our body. Ruslan Timofeev, the founder of venture builder CLUST and venture fund Adventures Lab, pays a lot of attention to sports and a healthy lifestyle in general, so he shared his own experience of how regular physical activity helps to cope with stress, improve productivity and maintain mental health.

How are physical and emotional health related?

People suffering from serious mental disorders have a significantly higher risk of developing chronic physical diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and others. Similarly, chronic physical diseases increase the risk of developing depression, anxiety and other mental problems.

So, Ruslan Timofeev adheres to the old rule “a healthy mind in a healthy body”, and here’s why:

  • Sport is a natural antidepressant. Any physical activity, from walking to intense training, promotes the production of endorphins in the brain – the so-called “hormones of happiness”, which help to improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety.
  • Physical exercises stimulate brain activity. Regular training increases concentration, improves memory and accelerates the process of learning new skills. A combination of aerobic and strength exercises that comprehensively stimulate brain activity is especially useful.
  • An active lifestyle is a recipe for sound sleep. Physical activity helps you fall asleep faster and provides deeper sleep. In addition, it helps relieve stress and tension, which are the main causes of insomnia.
  • Sport increases self-confidence. With every achievement in sports – whether it’s a new personal record or mastery of a new exercise – self-confidence grows. Physical activity helps you feel your own body, understand your capabilities and motivates you to achieve your goals.

How does regular exercise improve mental performance?

Having several business projects and a tight work schedule, Ruslan Timofeev is always ready for a great workload and emotional stress. He, like no one else, understands how sports support daily mental performance:

  • Develops cognitive functions. Regular physical activity has a positive effect on memory improvement and problem-solving speed. Applying the principles of time management to his training, Ruslan Timofeev manages to combine an active life with work, remaining productive even in the most stressful periods.
  • Improves planning skills. Ruslan Timofeev conducts a thorough analysis of his fitness goals, defines specific tasks and creates a detailed training plan. This helps him to set goals for business projects in the same way in the future.
  • Supports clarity of mind. Morning gymnastics is not only a part of the physical routine, but also a tool for mental hygiene. Training not only strengthens the body, but also frees the head from negative thoughts. Often, the most interesting ideas and solutions that turn out to be successful in work or personal life come during a run.

How to take care of your mental health: practical tips

Prevention is better than cure, and this statement also applies to mental health. Therefore, the investor shared his own insights about what helps to maintain normal mental well-being:

  • Develop yourself. Clearly define your goals and do not stop looking for new opportunities in your profession and hobby. For this, Ruslan Timofeev advises to read more, look for new ideas and opportunities for self-improvement.
  • Communicate. Surround yourself with nice and important people who support and inspire you.
  • Reduce the impact of negative backgrounds. Limit the amount of news you read and turn off unnecessary notifications – this will contribute to your inner peace.
  • Take care of yourself. Pay attention to internal needs and maintain connection with the body. Get regular therapy to understand your emotions and find ways to find harmony.

As Ruslan Timofeev emphasizes, satisfaction with life appears thanks to health care. Physical activity not only strengthens the body, but also improves general well-being, which allows us to enjoy every moment. Harmony between body and mind is the key to productivity, the ability to overcome life’s challenges and achieve goals.
