Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe surpassed the historical achievement of the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo by the number of effective shots within the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. This happened thanks to the double of the Frenchman in the match of the 8th round against “Benfica”, which ended with the score 2:4.
Mbappe now has 13 goals scored in the overall Champions League for the 2025/2026 season. The previous record was held by former Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 11 shots in the 2015/2016 season.
As a result of this defeat, “Real” moved to the 9th place in the final table, which deprived the team of the opportunity to enter the 1/8 finals directly. Now the Spanish giant is waiting for participation in the play-off matches. At the same time, “Benfica”, thanks to the victory, also secured a place in the next stage of the tournament.
