Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is looking to add speed to his Ferrari during the Abu Dhabi race weekend after a difficult first day at the track.

The Brit missed the first free practice, giving way to Arthur Leclerc in the mandatory session for debutants. Hamilton made his first appearance on the track only in the second practice, where he showed only the 14th result.

After the session, the pilot admitted that he did not feel in optimal conditions after missing FP1:

“I feel fine, Arthur did well in the morning. It’s always great to see young pilots get their chance. But in the end, the one who misses the session is in a worse position. I tried to get up to speed as quickly as possible,” said Hamilton.

“It was quite a difficult balance during the session, so there is still a lot of work to do.”

Hamilton is still without a single podium this season, and Sunday’s race will be his last chance to maintain his record of finishing on the podium at least once in a season.

The Briton also revealed what the team is working on before Saturday:

“I still believe this car has potential. I directly told the team: these are my problems, help solve them. We need to improve the behavior of the car on bumps, remove bounce and insufficient steering.

“If we manage to solve this problem, we will be able to add significantly,” the Briton concluded.
