GERWYN PRICE suffered his worst World Championship exit for seven years as he was battered in 22 minutes by the world No92.

The Iceman – who owns a fish and chip shop in his home town – was crushed 3-0 in round two by unknown Wesley Plaisier in the biggest shock so far of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Not since December 2018 had he gone out at this early stage of the competition.

And it is the first time in a decade the former world champion has been whitewashed on the Ally Pally stage.

It means PDC bosses face a huge dilemma in the New Year about whether or not to include him in the Premier League next year.

Though he is Box Office and brings stardust to the event – plus some pantomime boos – he has perhaps not done enough this year to justify his pick.

Price, 40, had said after the first round that winning the £1million title would not change his life from a financial perspective but he will not have to worry about that now.

Big Dutchman Plaisier – the opposite in size and fitness to muscle man Price – showed his intentions by opening up with a 130 finish on the bullseye.

Plaisier, who walks to the oche to the strains of “Angels” by Robbie Williams, looked in control at 2-0 up in sets and then sealed his progression in set three on double 10 on his third match dart.

A shocked Plaisier said: “I cannot believe this. My biggest victory ever.

“I don’t know how I did it. I was so nervous and so happy to get over the line. This is so special.

“I thought I would give him a hell of a match but I didn’t expect to win this. I am so happy.”

Having now blown a hole in the top half of the draw, Plaisier, 35, will fancy his chances against Pole Krzysztof Ratajski in round three after Christmas.

Price reacted on his Instagram story after the game, saying he was “absolutely gutted” and praised his rival.

He said: “Absolutely gutted there. Had so much support which was amazing.

“Wesley was great at the right moments but I was way off and it showed.

“Good luck to him and everyone else left on the tournament, see you in 2026.

“Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
