The first double in Formula-1, McLaren won in 1968 at the Grand Prix of Canada, when Danny Halm was ahead of Bruce McLaren, the founder of the team. It was only the beginning of a long journey that would lead the team to the most successful periods in its history.

The second double was issued in 1983, when Lauda and Watson finished the first and second at the US Grand Prix.

The most successful period for Mclarene was the late 80s, when Alen Simne and Ayrton Senna acted for the team. This legendary duo brought a team of 14 doubles, most of which fell on the 1988 season, when the team won 15 out of 16 races. Their rivalry was one of the most exciting pages in the history of Formula-1, as well as the main factor in Mclarene’s domination at that time.

The end of the 90’s and the dominance of hacquin
The next peak the team survived in the late 90’s, when Mclarene began to fight for the titles again. Mika Hakkinen duo – David Kulthard won 13 dubs, which made him one of the most successful in the history of the team. It was these pilots that brought the Cup of Designers in 1998, which was able to return Lando Norris and Oscar Pastri last year, 26 years after success in the late 1990s.

In 2007, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso appeared on the team, which immediately showed an incredible pace. They won 4 doubles in one season, but internal conflict and scandals did not allow the team to keep both pilots.
Subsequently, another strong duo-Hamilton and Batton, was formed in Mclarene, which together won 3 doubles in 2010-2012. However, it was during this period that the team began to lose its position in Formula-1, second to Bull and Ferrari.

After a long decline, McLaren returned to the struggle for victory only in 2021, when Daniel Ricardo and Lando Norris brought a long-awaited double at the Italian Grand Prix. It became the first double Mclarene in 11 years and marked the beginning of a new era.

Achieving 50 doubles is a strong proof that Mclarene remains one of the most successful teams in the history of Formula-1. There are many more challenges ahead, but the modern Duet of Norris and Piastri shows that the team has returned to the top and fought again for the championship titles. Will the next double be another step towards the revival of the legend? Time will show, however, the shape, both the current machine and pilots, hints that we will celebrate the new jubilee record this season.
