Formula 1 legends square off against poker stars in a $10,000 tournament

Resorts World Las Vegas hosted the first charity tournament Big Deal for One Dropwhich brought together motorsport legends, professional poker players and philanthropists. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for the foundation One Dropwhich helps provide access to clean water and sanitation to people around the world.

The $10,000 buy-in tournament was organized as part of the Formula 1 race weekend in association with One Drop and WPT Foundation. Legendary racing drivers including David Coulthard, Martin Brundle, Mika Hakkinen, Alex Wurz and Otmar Safnauer took part in the competition.

The poker world was represented by Tony Dunst, Antonio Esfandiari and Jennifer Tilly. The evening was hosted by Phil Hellmuth, who appeared in a special One Drop jersey with the number “17” – a symbol of his victories in the WSOP.

“We are very pleased with how the first tournament went,” said Adam Pliska, President and CEO World Poker Tour. “Big Deal for One Drop perfectly combined entertainment, sports excitement and charity.”

The winner of the tournament was Derek Adamian, who received an exclusive VIP package to the Monaco Grand Prix, including race tickets, an invitation to a reception at the Prince’s Palace and a limited set of WPT chips.

Since its foundation in 2007, the fund One Drop has helped more than 3 million people. The organization has been working with the poker community for more than ten years, organizing large charity tournaments.

The most famous of them is Big One for One Drop with a $1 million buy-in, which was first held at the WSOP in 2012. Its winners were Antonio Esfandiari ($18.4 million), Dan Coleman ($15.3 million), Elton Tsang ($12.2 million), Justin Bonomo ($10 million) and Nikita Badziakovski ($7.1 million).

It was also held High Roller for One Drop with a buy-in of $111,111, where Anthony Gregg ($4.8 million), Jonathan Duhamel ($4 million), Fedor Holtz ($5 million) and Doug Polk ($3.7 million) won. He was replaced in 2023 WPT Alpha8where success was achieved by Jonathan Jaffe ($1.5 million) and Steve O’Dwyer ($1 million).
