On July 30, 1966, the final of the World Championship between the national teams of England and Germany was held at the Wembley Stadium. The match ended with the effective victory of the British – 4: 2. Jeff Herst made a hat trick in that meeting.
On the way to the trophy, the British beat Mexico (2: 0), France (2: 0), Argentina (1: 0), Portugal (2: 1) and Germany (4: 2). The only draw was recorded at the group stage – in the match against the Uruguay national team (0-0).
In the final at the stadium there were about 93,000 spectators, and about 400 million people watched a match on TV.
This title remains the only one in the asset of the British internationally.
