Another winning double was made by the representatives of the owners of the ice. This time at the distance of 500 meters among men, where Mateusz Kanya and Damian Jurek ran in the eighth and ninth pairs, respectively. Mateusz, who combines figure skating and speed skating, was the first to run out with 35 seconds, but Damian immediately eclipsed his time by 0.3 seconds to take his second gold of the 2026 European Championships. And the star Belgian Bart Swings, also a famous speed skater, won in his most successful discipline – the mass start.
At the distance of 1500 meters, the Norwegian Peder Kungshaug, who ran in the last, tenth pair, was able to win with an advantage of almost half a second over another Pole, Wladimir Semirunny, and regained the title of European champion at this distance.
In today’s only women’s individual distance, 1000 meters, Czech athlete Nikola Zdragalova won her first European championship gold in her career. Zdragalova ran in the last, eighth pair and improved the time of Chloe Hohend from the Netherlands by 0.28 seconds.
The Dutch women Sanne inet Hoff, Efelin Fine and Kim Talsma won today’s only team discipline – the women’s pursuit race. “Oranje” took to the ice in the second pair against the trio from Belgium, which in the end became the second, lagging behind the champions of oil by more than 2.5 seconds.
