After an unexpected break with McLaren’s junior program, Alex Dunn has yet to find a new team in the Formula 1 structure.

Shortly after his departure from the British team was officially confirmed, Helmut Marko admitted that Red Bull had held talks with the Irishman, calling him a “Red Bull-style driver”.

In the debut season of Formula 2, Dunn managed to impress with two victories and five more podiums. At the same time, a series of mistakes led to the accumulation of 10 penalty points on the super license.

According to RacingNews365 and Formula.hu, this is what is causing controversy within Red Bull. While interest in Dunn remains, some management is not convinced the pilot is ready to integrate into the team’s system.

It was previously reported that the potential deal would have seen Dunn stay in Formula 2 for another season, followed by a move to Formula 1 in 2027. However, there are currently no agreements.

In the Austrian team, the speed of the young Irishman is recognized, but his stability and impulsive character are in doubt. In addition, his sudden exit from the McLaren program raised questions about discipline.

For now, it remains an open question whether Dunn will be Red Bull’s next junior or if the team will focus on other candidates.
