“These are fantastic memories because it was the 2003–2004 season. We then won the championship, and it was the 100th anniversary of Besiktas. We made an incredible celebration. I remember that at that time we spent 51 matches without defeats. We built a wonderful team, played very good football. Very good football.
We won the Galatasarai and Fenerbachce, which at that time were truly top teams. And, of course, in this city, in this club, I spent two years fantastic, because Besiktash was a big team, a large club. And I am happy to contribute to the victory of this club.
In 20 years, a lot has changed, but I have known the mentality of Turkish football clubs because I worked in Turkey for six years – in Galatasarai, in Besiktas, in the national team. And I know that there will be a really powerful atmosphere here at this fantastic stadium.
Our players should be ready for such pressure, but I am sure that they are ready, because we have players of the Champions League, they are used to playing top stadiums. But believe me, the support of Besiktas fans is really incredible. I expect them to be just that pressure.
Of course, the opponent has many experienced players of the top level. But I think that we have many talented football players, we have a good organization, a very good motivation. And I think there will be a wonderful match. ”
