Burnley vs Man Utd preview Club veteran and current Under-18s coach Darren Fletcher takes charge of Manchester United for Wednesday’s trip to Turf Moor.
The 41-year-old steps in on a temporary basis following United’s decision to part company with Ruben Amorim after 14 months at the helm.
Fletcher becomes the club’s 11th manager since Sir Alex Ferguson, and a trip to struggling Burnley represents an early opportunity to stake his claim for an extended spell in the role.
United begin Fletcher’s interim tenure sixth in the Premier League, having suffered just one defeat in their last eight matches, and sit three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.
A new-manager bounce could be on the cards, particularly given United have lost only two of their last 36 Premier League games against teams starting the day in the relegation zone (W23 D11).
That said, Fletcher will need to address a worrying issue on the road.
Manchester United have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 15 Premier League away games, conceding 28 goals since a 3-0 win at Leicester in March.
Burnley, however, have found little comfort at home. The Clarets have lost five of their last six at Turf Moor and are winless in 11 league matches, while no side has scored fewer home goals in the division this season (eight).
Scott Parker’s task is made even harder by injury concerns. Top scorer Zian Flemming is a major doubt, while Josh Cullen – one of only two Burnley players with more than one Premier League assist this season – is sidelined with an ACL injury.
So all signs point to a difficult night for the 19th-placed Clarets, who have taken just 12 points from 20 matches and sit six points from safety – not least because only two of Burnley’s 14 Premier League goals against Manchester United have been scored at Turf Moor.
