  • OddsWe look to the bookmakers for a few clues on who is going to triumph for the top prize in tonight’s ceremony.

And they certainly have their minds made up with Keely Hodgkinson the odds-on 2/7 favourite to become the fourth successive woman to win the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award.

Luke Littler looks the only conceivable rival to the 800m queen at 5/2, with Alex Yee and Joe Root locked together at 50/1.

Jude Bellingham and Sarah Storey are the outsiders at 100/1 with talkSPORT BET.

  • Where’s Gary Lineker?Well I’m not sure where he is right this second – although alongside Micah Richards and Alan Shearer somewhere is probably a good shout.

But I know he’s not presenting the SPOTY awards after stepping down as co-presenter of the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year.

Lineker’s final appearance saw him present alongside Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott, with England goalkeeper Mary Earps crowned the 2023 SPOTY winner.

  • What are the other categories? This isn’t just about ONE award, folks. We’ve got another seven to get through/enjoy tonight.

    • World Sport Star of the Year
    • Helen Rollason award
    • Young Sports Personality of the Year
    • Unsung Hero
    • Coach of the Year
    • Team of the Year
    • Lifetime Achievement award

Spoiler alert: British cycling great Sir Mark Cavendish will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award.

    But act surprised.

  • OuchNot ideal preparations for one of tonight’s nominees.

Dame Sarah Storey broke her ankle a couple of weeks ago while training for Dancing on Ice.

“I knew straight away I’d broken it,” she told BBC Sport. “I lost my balance at the end of a spin and fell over.”

So tonight Storey is accompanied by a protective boot that I think includes… are those tea lights? Yes, tea lights.

    That’s show business!

  • ArrivalsYes the awards are back, and so is the red carpet to welcome tonight’s athletes and their plus-ones who’ll unfortunately be missing the darts over at Ally Pally.
