According to Sky News, Canabarro’s age is 116 years, she ranks 20th among the oldest people who ever lived – the list is headed by the Frenchwoman Jeanne Calman, who died in 1997 at the age of 122.

Inach Canabarro Lucas was born into a large family in the south of Brazil and became involved in religious work as a teenager. She spent two years in Montevideo, Uruguay before moving to Rio de Janeiro and eventually closer to home in southern Brazil.

She is a passionate soccer fan and her local club Inter celebrates her birthday every year with a cake and balloons in the team’s red and white colors.

Canabarro said that the secret of her longevity is her Catholic faith. In a video posted by LongeviQuest last year, the nun joked, recited the “Theotokos” prayer and shared miniature paintings she made of wildflowers.

“I am young, beautiful and friendly – you have all these good, positive qualities,” she said.

Sister Inach Canabarro received a greeting from Pope Francis on her 110th birthday and is currently the second oldest nun ever recorded, after Lucille Rendon, who lived for 118 years.

As UNIAN reported, Tomiko Itooka from Japan, who only 4 months ago was recognized as the oldest person in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records, died on December 29 at the age of 116.

Itooka was recognized as the oldest person in the world at the end of August last year after the death of 117-year-old Spanish Maria Branyas.
