According to the Ukrainian leader, the parties discussed the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine and the continuation of defense cooperation.
“I outlined the situation on the battlefield to my colleague. We discussed the threats posed to regional and global security by North Korea’s involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine, and continued defense cooperation between our countries. He conveyed the urgent defense needs of Ukraine regarding the strengthening of air defense and the supply of additional air defense equipment,” Zelenskyi said.
The presidents of Ukraine and Finland also discussed the successful holding of a thematic conference in Helsinki on the eighth point of the peace formula “Environmental security” and further international efforts necessary to restore a just peace for Ukraine.
The head of the Ukrainian state expressed gratitude to Finland for “unwavering support of Ukraine and the peace formula, as well as for all concrete steps towards its implementation.”
“Separately, I thanked Alexander Stubb for his active position in promoting peace based on the principles of the UN Charter during communication with the countries of the Global South,” Zelenskyy wrote.
In turn, Alexander Stubb noted on X social network that during the telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine, “the parties discussed the main topics that the President of Finland raised during his state visit to China.”
“We also talked about Finland’s continued support for Ukraine and the results of the presidential election in the United States,” Stubb’s post reads.
In Germany, Olaf Scholz’s government is increasingly discussing a proposal for a neutral Ukraine on the model of Finland during the Cold War, which did not belong to either NATO or the Warsaw Pact, Politico wrote. At the same time, the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, rejected this model for peace in Ukraine.
The introduction of the concept of Finlandization into the discussion about Ukraine, according to Stubb, is questionable for at least three reasons: it calls into question the entire modern security architecture of Europe, it does not support freedom of choice in matters of security and defense, and it promotes thinking in terms of spheres of influence, the Finnish broadcaster Ule reported .
