“On January 27, the world commemorates the victims of the Holocaust. It was a purposeful attempt by the Nazis to wipe out an entire nation – to kill all its people, to destroy everything that resembled the Jews. Six million victims. The crime of the Holocaust must never be repeated, but gradually, unfortunately, the memory of the Holocaust is fading. And the evil that tries to destroy the lives of entire nations still remains in the world,” Zelensky wrote in a telegram.
“We must prevent amnesia. And this is everyone’s mission – to do everything so that evil does not win,” the head of state added.
As the press service of the president reported, on the eve of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, Volodymyr Zelenskyi took part in the commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust on the territory of the Babin Yar National Historical and Memorial Reserve.
“On the eve of this day, together with rabbis, together with representatives of the diplomatic corps and teams of our state, we commemorated the men and women, adults and children – millions killed during the Holocaust,” the president noted.
The UN General Assembly announced January 27 as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this day, the world commemorates millions of Jews, as well as representatives of other nationalities, including Ukrainians, Poles and Roma, who became victims of Nazi persecution and mass murder during the Second World War.
