“Had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and thanked him for Germany’s large-scale bilateral defense assistance and its leadership in consolidating the efforts of partners to support Ukraine. Chancellor Scholz confirmed that the sixth of the planned IRIS-T air defense systems will arrive in Ukraine by the end of this year. We also discussed the supply of air defense in the coming year and the prospects of additional assistance with air defense from Germany,” Zelenskyy wrote in a telegram, without providing details.
In addition, according to the president, the parties coordinated the steps needed to ensure “the best defense and political support for Ukraine” and agreed on the importance of preserving the Ramstein format and holding another meeting of the coordination group.
Zelenskyi also stated that the Ukrainian vision of a just and lasting peace should be presented at the G20 meeting in Brazil, and thanked that Ukraine can count on Germany in this regard.
The chancellor’s office also reported on the conversation, but did not provide data on IRIS-T.
“President Zelensky thanked the federal government for military support, in particular for strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. The Federal Chancellor confirmed the permanent and unwavering solidarity with Ukraine in the face of Russia’s aggression, which has been going on for almost 1,000 days. He assured that Germany will continue to support Ukraine in the military sphere in close coordination with European and international partners,” Scholz’s press service reported.
According to the German government, in total, Berlin has provided or pledged to provide military aid in the amount of approximately 28 billion euros for the following years.
In September of this year, Scholz announced that Germany would provide Ukraine with 17 additional IRIS-T air defense systems by 2026.
