Zelensky Critiques Netanyahu’s Balancing Act Between Russia and Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concerns regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s attempts to maintain a balance between Russia and Ukraine. This statement comes in light of ongoing tensions and Russia’s support for Iran.

During a recent interview, Zelensky was asked if he felt Netanyahu leaned more towards Russian interests. He responded, stating, “I have the impression that Netanyahu is always trying to find a balance between Russia and Ukraine, even when it is clear that Russia is assisting Iran. He is the prime minister and must make decisions.”

Zelensky also noted that he has not had any recent communications with Netanyahu or the Israeli president, which has impacted Ukraine’s ability to engage Israeli experts regarding the elimination of Iranian drones.

The last conversation between Netanyahu and Zelensky took place in January 2025. Following the onset of conflict with Iran in 2026, Netanyahu requested a meeting with Zelensky, who agreed, but Netanyahu did not follow through with a call.

“In my view, everything depends on Israel. When you need help, you must be open and explain what the problem is. Otherwise, it is impossible to provide assistance. It is like going to a doctor without explaining what hurts,” Zelensky remarked.

Throughout the interview, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine possesses capabilities that could be beneficial to Israel, while Israel also has resources that Ukraine requires. He stated, “We have what Israel needs, and Israel has what we need. He (Netanyahu) knows this well; we have discussed our requirements with Israel multiple times. We face a significant shortage of air defense systems, but we also have capabilities that Israel lacks, and we are ready for such dialogue.”

Additionally, Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine has shared intelligence with Middle Eastern leaders regarding the collaboration between Russia and Iran. He also pointed out that Russia has a vested interest in prolonging the conflict in the Middle East, as it gains strategic advantages, including the potential reduction of military aid to Ukraine and economic growth resulting from weakened sanctions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for attempting to balance relations with Russia and Ukraine amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions. Zelensky highlighted the need for open communication and cooperation between Ukraine and Israel, particularly concerning defense capabilities and intelligence sharing.
