The corresponding law was adopted in 2020, the deputy minister reminded.
12-year education in Ukrainian schools will be introduced from September 1, 2027 / photo ua.depositphotos.com12-year education in schools in all regions of Ukraine will be introduced from September 1, 2027 in accordance with the law “On comprehensive general secondary education”. Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Nadiya Kuzmychova told RBC-Ukraine about this.
“This is not a matter of desire, it is a matter of implementing the law, which was adopted back in 2020. Changes in this part of the law were not made and cannot be made, because it is about the sustainability of the reform,” the official stressed.
According to her, from 2027, all absolute educational institutions that will work in Ukraine in the category of lyceums will switch to the 12-year education format.
“And all children who will enter the tenth grade in 2027 will study for 12 years. There are already children in this system who started studying with the start of the reform in 2018,” Kuzmychova explained.
She reminded that the reform began to be implemented in 2018, and all children who entered the first grade at that time are already studying according to the new standard, that is, they will undergo 12 years of education. the same applies to those who have started and will start studying in schools in the following years.
At what age to send a child to schoolNo one has and will not impose obligations on parents, at what age to send a child to 1st grade, assured the deputy minister. Children, as before, start school at the age of 6 or 7 – it is the parents’ choice, she says.
“No changes are foreseen in this regard. Let’s say, in 2018, someone sent their child to school at 6 years old, someone at 7. In 2025, it will be the same: someone sent it at 6, someone at 7. This decision is not the state’s, it is the decision of the parents themselves. The state will definitely not regulate this, in any case. Maybe there will be those who sent it at 8 years old. And there is a child who turns six years old in September – and it turns out that she goes to school at the age of 5,” explained Kuzmychova.
Other education newsAs previously reported by UNIAN, universities of Ukraine are introducing a “zero course”. The MES explained who it is for and when recruitment will start. According to Deputy Minister Mykola Trofymenko, this will be a preparatory stage between finishing school and studying in the first year of university. Those who plan to enter a bachelor’s degree and feel that they have gaps in knowledge or a break in their studies due to war or relocation will be able to take advantage of this opportunity. The first recruitment for the “zero course” should start in the winter – the groups will start training already in January.
We also wrote that dozens of educational institutions will be inspected in Ukraine due to the influx of students over the age of 25. According to the head of the State Education Quality Service Ruslan Gurak, about 50 educational institutions, namely colleges, want to be inspected. This is due to the fact that admission to universities was limited by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Verkhovna Rada. Because of this, most of the older applicants choose to study in colleges.
