Ukraine coordinates actions regarding North Korea with Japan and South Korea.
“We do not have diplomatic relations and we do not have any channels of communication with North Korea. We are in close contact with our allies in Asia, with Japan and the Republic of Korea (South Korea), we coordinate our actions and policies regarding North Korea and its deepening military cooperation with Russia, which threatens not only us, but also the whole of Southeast Asia and the Pacific region,” Tykhi noted.
Ukraine and North KoreaDiplomatic relations between Ukraine and the DPRK were established in January 1992, and 30 years later they had to be severed. As UNIAN wrote, in July 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced the severance of diplomatic relations with North Korea after Pyongyang recognized the “independence” of the Donbas territories temporarily occupied by the Russian army.
In November, South Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations, Jongkuk Hwang, said that, according to available estimates, North Korea has transferred about 9.4 million artillery shells to Russia for the war against Ukraine.
The representative of the USA for special political issues, Ambassador Robert Wood, reported that North Korea is preparing to transfer even more ballistic missiles to Russia to target Ukrainian cities. Earlier, at the request of Russia, North Korea illegally transferred more than 18,000 containers of shells and ammunition-related materials and more than 100 ballistic missiles for use against Ukraine.
