This is reported by The Hill. “The US government knows, because we told many of their spokesmen, that if they want to seriously discuss an agreement to fight drug trafficking, we are ready,” Maduro said in an interview with Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet.

“If they want oil, Venezuela is ready for US investment, as with Chevron (an oil company from the US), whenever they want, where they want and how they want,” he added.

Maduro also emphasized that the US seeks regime change in Venezuela and hopes to gain access to the country’s oil reserves.

His statements, the publication says, sound against the background of increased pressure by the Trump administration on the Venezuelan leader due to the massive US military presence in the region. US Southern Command forces have repeatedly blown up alleged drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific Ocean, and have imposed a naval blockade on all authorized oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela.

The President of Venezuela believes that in this way the USA is “imposing itself through threats.”

“What are they looking for? It is clear that they seek to impose themselves through threats, intimidation and force,” Maduro said.

The article also recalls that since the beginning of September, the US military has blown up suspected drug smuggling vessels in both the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean, carrying out at least 35 strikes and killing at least 115 “narco-terrorists”, which the US administration says is an attempt to stop the flow of illegal drugs in the region.

The publication also recalls that on December 24, the CIA carried out a drone strike on a Venezuelan port where, according to American officials, the Venezuelan gang “Tren de Aragua” stores drugs. The mission was the first US ground strikes inside Venezuela since the start of a large-scale military build-up in the area.

When asked about the CIA strike, Maduro said that “it could be a topic that we will talk about in a few days.”

USA and VenezuelaAs reported, in November of last year, US President Donald Trump gave Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro time to leave the country. After refusing to comply with the ultimatum, the US announced the closure of the airspace over the country.

During a brief conversation on November 21, Maduro expressed his willingness to leave Venezuela, but made a number of demands. He asked for a full amnesty for himself and his family, the lifting of all US sanctions, an end to the International Criminal Court proceedings and the lifting of restrictions on more than 100 high-ranking officials of his government.

Trump rejected most of these conditions. The conversation lasted less than 15 minutes, and the American president outlined a clear deadline – a week for Maduro to leave the country with his family.
