UNCCC has carried out a comprehensive repair and arrangement of premises of a supported accommodation facility. The works were aimed at improving living conditions and modernization of the necessary infrastructure, such as heating, power grid, ventilation, water supply and sewer system to create a comfortable environment for all residents, including people with disabilities.
However, the restoration of the building is only part of the change. The Slava Sanatorium has also become part of a progressive pilot program, which UNCCC implements jointly with the Ministry of Social Policy and the Right to Defense. The main purpose is to increase the ability of social workers of the sanatorium and the community to help displaced people in the process of social adaptation, which, in the future, will allow them to live on their own in the community.
Thanks to the individual plans of social adaptation, displaced people receive the support necessary for the long -term resolution of their life situation, while strengthening links in the new community. This is especially important for the elderly, who, and in some places, and the destruction or occupation of their homes, led independent life, relying on the help of neighbors and loved ones.
This joint initiative of the UNCC and the Ministry is aimed at restoring the ability to live independently after moving that meets the goals of the national deinstitutionalization strategy.

Combining improved living conditions with individual social support services, we expand the possibilities of displaced persons to restore their lives. This experience will help to strengthen the social protection system throughout the country, and therefore, in the long run, to benefit many people, ” – The UNCCC representative in Ukraine Karolina Lindholm Billing said.
“Before the forced movement, these people had their homes, economy and plans for calm old age in the circle of relatives and loved ones. However, the war made its terrible adjustments: loss of housing, health, habitual lifestyle led to the fact that these people now have become IDPs, which are no longer possible to start. For older people and people with disabilities who have left the dangerous territories, and we need additional support. The Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovich noted.
The Glory Sanatorium in Mirgorod now provides three key social services / photos UNHCR / Tetiana Kuras”We strive that every person who is in difficult circumstances through war has not only a roof over their heads, but also a real chance to regain control of life. The service of social adaptation, which we realize in the sanatorium” Glory “, lies in the individual support and support of every recipient of help. The decision on further arrangement and provision of your own well -being after eviction is not just a help, but an investment in a decent and independent future, ” – said the Deputy Coordinator of the Social Assistance and Protection Program of the BF “Right to Defense” Vita Titova.
The Slava Sanatorium in Mirgorod now provides three key social services: temporary residence for IDPs until they are found long -term housing; supported for people who need help in everyday life (in particular, the elderly and people with disabilities); as well as a new pilot service for social adaptation for a gradual transition to an independent life.
The UNCCC has been working closely with the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine for many years and in 2022 signed a memorandum on mutual understanding in order to expand access to the social protection system for IDPs and other vulnerable segments of the population that have been injured from the war.
