Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for an expedited conclusion to the ongoing conflict with Russia, emphasizing the need for decisive action rather than philosophical discussions. In an interview with Axios, Zelensky expressed concerns that the Russian delegation, led by Vladimir Medinsky, may attempt to turn peace talks into a mere formality.
Zelensky highlighted the risk that the negotiations could regress, potentially allowing Russian forces to regroup on the battlefield. He criticized Medinsky for engaging in discussions about the ‘historical roots’ of the war, echoing sentiments often expressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We do not have time for this nonsense. We need to resolve and end the war,” Zelensky stated.
Medinsky, a prominent ideologue within the Kremlin, has been instrumental in shaping a distorted narrative of history that aligns with Putin’s regime. As head of the Interagency Commission for Historical Education, he oversees the unification of state propaganda and combats foreign influences on historical memory.
Reports indicate that Medinsky is directly involved in the creation of Russian history textbooks that justify the occupation of Ukrainian territories. He also conducts ideological initiatives in areas of Ukraine under Russian control through the Russian Military Historical Society.
Investigators have noted that Medinsky’s role includes providing an ‘intellectual framework’ for Putin’s imperial ambitions. He is set to participate in the third round of negotiations with Ukraine, scheduled for February 17-18 in Geneva.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged for a swift resolution to the conflict with Russia, expressing concerns over the potential manipulation of peace talks by the Russian delegation. He criticized the focus on historical discussions, calling for immediate action to end the war.
