Ukrainian President Critiques Hungarian PM Over Pipeline Comments

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly challenged Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán regarding his remarks on the state of the Druzhba oil pipeline. Zelensky’s comments come amid ongoing tensions related to energy security in the region.

During a recent statement, Zelensky pointed out that satellite imagery can reveal technical reservoirs, highlighting that a significant tank has been ruptured. He quipped,

“Perhaps Orbán is a magician, able to see the condition of the pipeline underground through satellites. I am surprised, but anything is possible.”

Additionally, Zelensky addressed the demands from Hungary and Slovakia for the restoration of the Druzhba pipeline, emphasizing that the cost of such restoration is the lives of Ukrainians. He noted that Russian forces continue to target energy infrastructure in Ukraine.

“Has anyone heard from Orbán or from Fico (Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico) expressing gratitude to Ukraine or condolences to the families affected? Not a single word. Instead, we are left with the impression that we owe them something,” he remarked.

In a related development, Zelensky confirmed that Fico has agreed to a personal meeting, expressing anticipation for the Slovak Prime Minister’s visit to Ukraine. He stated,

“Our team has provided dates for a meeting between March 6-9—choose a date. We heard media feedback suggesting we meet in some other country. But where should I meet with Fico? Where is the Druzhba pipeline? In Ukraine. I invited him—he confirmed he will come; welcome!”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's comments on the Druzhba pipeline while emphasizing the ongoing threats to Ukrainian lives from Russian attacks. Zelensky also confirmed a forthcoming meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, highlighting the importance of addressing regional energy security issues.
