Scott Bessent believes that the Ukrainian economy can ahead Russian in 20 years / Frame from videoAfter 20 years, the Ukrainian economy can be ahead of Russian. This statement was made during the hearing in Congress, the Minister of Finance of the United States of America Scott Bessent.
According to the US Minister, stable Ukrainian economy in the long run will be the best protection for Ukraine – so is he and US President Donald Trump. He stressed that national security is economic security.
Bessent also recalled that when the Berlin Wall fell, the Ukrainian and Polish economies were the same, but now Poland’s economy is ahead of Ukraine three times.
“I believe that twenty years of Ukraine’s economy, thanks to an effective management similar to a partnership (as between Ukraine and the United States-Ed.) And global investment can become more than the Russian economy. And I think it will be a very strong deterrent factor for anyone who will lead Russia then.”
Bessent added that a large conference will be held in Rome, where they will talk about the restoration of Ukraine. Washington calls on the World Bank to focus on this issue.
At the same time, the US Minister stressed that no country that assisted Russia in the war against Ukraine – money, military or equipment for Russian weapons – will not have the right to be a participant in the process of reconstruction of Ukraine.
“You cannot destroy the country, destroy people, destroy life, and then receive money for its restoration,” said Bessent.
Restoration of UkraineAs a result of the Russian invasion and permanent shelling, Ukraine suffered tremendous losses. At least 1 billion euros are needed to rebuild the port infrastructure of Ukraine. Such a forecast was announced at the end of May 2025 in the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that after the end of the war for Ukraine’s rebuilding, Russian assets need frozen in the West. But there is no legal framework for such a step, he emphasized.
