The next session of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, known as the “Ramstein format,” is scheduled for April 15. Central topics of discussion will include enhancing air defense systems and advancing drone technology.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov and his German counterpart Boris Pistorius recently held a working call to finalize details for the upcoming meeting. Ukraine plans to present updates on its “War Plan” aimed at compelling Russia to seek peace.
Key areas of collaboration will focus on strengthening air defense capabilities, developing drone systems, and sharing combat data and technology. Ukraine is proposing a cooperative model that allows allies to access unique combat experiences and Ukrainian-manufactured systems, particularly methods to counter drone threats like the Iranian-made Shahed.
The two nations are preparing several technological projects, including additional funding for long-range and medium-range drones. They also discussed potential collaboration in the field of innovative laser weaponry.
Reznikov emphasized Germany’s critical role in protecting Ukrainian infrastructure, particularly through the provision of PAC-3 missiles. He stated, “Contributions from Germany have been vital in repelling Russian attacks.”
The ministers also focused on the exchange of extensive combat data. Plans are underway to enhance cooperation in this area, which could open new avenues for developing the defense capabilities of both countries.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that promised missiles for the Patriot air defense system had arrived in Ukraine. This includes a shipment of PAC-3 missiles, which are crucial for defending against ballistic threats.
Following the Contact Group meeting on February 12, Ukraine received one of its largest support packages, with allies committing $38 billion for the procurement of drones, air defense systems, and ammunition.
In addition to acquiring weaponry, Kyiv is working on reforming the operational logic of the Ramstein format. This reform is intended to ensure that each participating country has a clear understanding of its specific contributions to Ukraine’s long-term defense capabilities.
