The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyridenko, announced this in the Telegram channel.

“This decision is part of the preparation for winter in conditions of shelling. Ukraine needs more gas for a stable heating period. After all, due to massive Russian strikes on the gas infrastructure, we temporarily lost our own production,” the Prime Minister wrote.

Earlier, experts warned that Ukraine may not have enough gas to survive the winter. The reason is the systematic attacks of the Russian Federation on the Ukrainian gas infrastructure, as well as the fact that Ukraine did not buy enough gas in the summer, when it was at the most affordable prices.

Where will Ukraine import gas from?Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi reported that Ukraine would be ready to find 2 billion dollars (about 84 billion hryvnias) for additional gas purchases, in case such a problem arises. According to him, there are already relevant import agreements with Slovakia and energy companies in the USA.

In turn, Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk noted that the department is diversifying gas supply routes. Work continues on increasing the supply of “blue fuel” on the Polish-Ukrainian border. It is also planned to use the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline.

The Ministry of Energy estimated the additional need for gas at 2 billion cubic meters. 13.2 billion cubic meters were pumped into Ukrainian underground storages, and its withdrawal began on October 23.

Russia’s strikes on gas facilitiesIn autumn, the Russian Federation significantly increased its shelling of Ukrainian gas infrastructure. In particular, as of October 15, the enemy carried out three massive attacks on gas facilities, and since then the terror has continued.

According to unofficial data, Russia destroyed about 60% of gas production in Ukraine.

People’s deputy Mykhailo Bondar noted that already in December-January there may be a shortage of gas in Ukraine, due to which the authorities will do everything possible to postpone the start of the heating season.
