This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Johann Wadeful. He emphasized the importance of reliable security guarantees for Ukraine, primarily from the United States, the German Wave reports.
“This means commitment and real readiness on the part of those who make promises to support Ukraine if it is attacked by Russia again,” he said.
According to the German minister, Ukraine can make concessions, particularly territorial concessions, only if they are accompanied by reliable security guarantees from the USA and Europe.
What kind of guarantees these will be, Vadeful noted that this issue will be discussed in more detail when there is a ceasefire in Ukraine and when it becomes clear that the Russian Federation is really ready to think seriously about peace.
He noted that although the Russian Federation shows readiness for negotiations, it is not the same as real readiness for peace:
“We haven’t seen that yet.”
Security guarantees for UkraineOn December 18, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine continues work on security guarantees from the United States. He also named key security guarantees for Ukraine.
And on December 22, Politico wrote that security guarantees from the US are the only viable path to peace for Ukraine, and Europe cannot help with anything. After all, Kyiv’s European allies cannot even deploy multinational forces without the material and technical support of the United States.
