Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that he and French President Emmanuel Macron have reached several significant agreements regarding military cooperation. The discussions focused on enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, particularly in light of ongoing security challenges.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of keeping the details of their agreements confidential for the time being. He stated, “Everything we are counting on—air defense and more—has been confirmed,” indicating a commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defenses.
In February, Zelensky highlighted a critical shortage of Pac-3 interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems, which left Ukrainian defenses vulnerable to ballistic missile attacks. Currently, over 80% of Ukraine’s territory remains exposed to such threats, with only limited capabilities to counter them effectively.
The Ukrainian military relies heavily on advanced systems like Patriot and SAMP/T to defend against these attacks, but the supply remains insufficient. Zelensky’s remarks underscore the urgency of addressing these gaps in air defense.
Additionally, the President noted that personnel changes are planned within the Air Force units tasked with countering drone threats. These adjustments aim to significantly enhance the effectiveness of short-range air defense in critical areas.
Ukrainian President Zelensky and French President Macron have agreed on key military cooperation measures to strengthen Ukraine's air defense. With over 80% of the country vulnerable to missile attacks, these agreements come at a crucial time for Ukraine's security strategy.
