This is stated in a message on the website of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
“Two more Patriot air defense complexes have come to protect Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure,” the message reads.
In particular, according to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, this was achieved thanks to recent agreements with the German government.
The Ministry of Defense reminded that Patriot is an American anti-aircraft missile system, which is one of the most advanced air defense systems in the world.
“Designed for the destruction of aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles. Patriot is capable of shooting down high-speed and complex targets, providing multi-layered protection for strategic facilities and large cities,” the message emphasized.
In this regard, the Ministry of Defense named the main advantages of Patriot systems. First, it is universality. The complex destroys various aerodynamic and ballistic targets, including hypersonic ones. Patriot missiles strike hypersonic missiles “Zircon” and “Dagger”, which develop speeds of up to 11,000 and up to 16,000 km/h, respectively.
Secondly, it is high efficiency. The high-precision Patriot radar uses technologies that allow simultaneous detection and tracking of various targets. Missiles of the Patriot complex (especially the PAC-3 MSE version) have high accuracy, hit targets with direct guidance, which is important for protection against ballistic missiles.
Third is multitasking. It is noted that one Patriot battery simultaneously detects up to 100 targets and tracks up to 8 targets. The fourth is automaticity: the ability to operate in automatic mode allows the Patriot to instantly respond to threats, which is important for intercepting hypersonic missiles.
Fifth, it is range and height. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the Patriot hits air targets at an altitude of up to 24 km and a distance of up to 160 km, covering large areas.
“At present, the Patriot air defense systems protect Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. They reduce losses from enemy strikes with cruise and ballistic missiles on power plants and civilian objects,” the Ministry of Defense said.
Patriot systems for UkraineAs UNIAN reported, two more Patriot systems arrived in Ukraine from Germany in November.
On October 20, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the preparation of a contract for the purchase of 25 Patriot systems. These systems will arrive every year for several years.
