According to Sijarto, “the question is only about terms, not about intentions.”
Such a statement was made on the X social network by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Peter Sijarto, following the meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to him, preparations for this summit are ongoing.
“Bad news for the pro-war lobby and good news for those who want peace. After my meeting with Secretary of State Rubio, it became clear that the United States has not given up on holding the Budapest Peace Summit. Preparations are ongoing, and the question is only about timing, not about intentions,” Szijjártó said in a statement.
Summit of Trump and Putin in BudapestLast week, US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Putin, following which he announced a meeting with the dictator in Budapest. He did not name the exact date, but said that it will take place in the near future.
However, on October 21, a number of Western media reported that the summit in Budapest had been cancelled. Preparations for it were put on hold after an unsuccessful conversation between the US Secretary of State Rubio and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Lavrov, according to media reports.
In Hungary, however, it was noted that such statements do not correspond to reality, and preparations for the meeting did not stop.
