He said this in an interview with CNN Turk.
“Here, Europe must help Ukraine in making certain difficult decisions together with Ukraine. Indeed, some elections, some decisions are very difficult for Ukraine. But in order to prevent greater losses, i.e. for the greater good, it is necessary to eliminate evil, i.e. bad… That is, a choice must be made. I know that it is difficult for them. Especially the issue of territory is incredibly difficult. May God not give such a thing to anyone,” Fidan noted.
According to him, such decisions are difficult and there are requirements for guarantees for the future. The diplomat added that it is also difficult, but Turkey continues to facilitate negotiations between the two sides of the conflict.
Fidan assured that Istanbul is ready to organize peace talks again, and also reminded that three rounds of talks were held last summer.
The politician added that during these negotiations, significant progress was made on the issue of the exchange of prisoners and other humanitarian factors.
“This prepared the ground for the negotiations that continue today. We are ready to play this positive role. Look, now the Black Sea has become a battlefield. The war has spread to the Black Sea. Now merchant ships and tankers are being attacked in the Black Sea. That is, if the war continues, it will spread to other regions of Europe. That is, God forbid, it must stop here,” – warned the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Peace talks – the latest newsEarlier, President Donald Trump said that only Zelensky does not like the US peace plan, while his people are delighted. He added that Washington was close to agreements with both Moscow and Kyiv.
“I thought we were very close to concluding an agreement with Russia. I thought we were very close to concluding an agreement with Ukraine. Basically, with the exception of President Zelensky himself, his people were delighted with the concept of this agreement,” the American leader said.
At the same time, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on the US not to encourage Zelenskyi to an unfair peace. He also believes that a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia cannot be concluded without the participation of Europe.
“It would be a mistake to force the president of Ukraine to a peace that his people will not support after four years of suffering and death. That is why we make it clear that we are showing stability in our support for Ukraine in achieving common goals,” added Merts.
