According to the survey conducted by the sociological group “Rating”, the majority of Ukrainians support the completion of nuclear power units, seeing it as a step towards energy independence and stability.

Power unit No. 3 of the Khmelnytsky NPP is currently 75% ready, No. 4 is 25% ready. It is expected that the completion of the third block will take 2.5-3 years, and the completion of the fourth block will take another year and a half.

The construction is planned to be financed mainly through loan funds and own resources of Energoatom NAEC, without involvement of the state budget.

As previously reported, in April 2024, the government decided to complete the construction of the Khmelnytsky NPP. Subsequently, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy Affairs supported this draft law and recommended that it be put to a vote.

The project received the support of international partners, in particular the USA and the EU. The American company Westinghouse will supply nuclear fuel for the new units, which will contribute to Ukraine’s energy independence from Russian suppliers.
