The department confirmed that the German side reported that it was going to speak with the Russian leader.

“But even if the Chancellor of Germany did not express positions in the conversation that would be contrary to the position of Ukraine, the conversations with the Russian dictator in themselves do not bring any added value for achieving a just peace,” the message states.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that long conversations are a resource that Putin has been using for more than 20 years to achieve his interests. They added:

“Now the talks only give Putin the hope of easing international isolation. What is needed are concrete strong actions that will force him to peace, not persuasion and attempts at appeasement, which he regards as a sign of weakness and uses for his own purposes. Concrete actions are known – and this is primarily a conclusion troops of the occupier from the territory of Ukraine”.

Scholz’s conversation with Putin – detailsAs reported by the press service of the German government, during the telephone conversation, Scholz called on Putin to negotiate with Ukraine for the sake of a “fair and lasting peace” and at the same time stressed that Germany is ready to help Ukraine as much as needed.

Reuters reported with reference to an anonymous source in Zelensky’s administration that he dissuaded Scholz from calling Putin.

In his video message, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noted that the Chancellor of Germany had warned him about the telephone conversation that was being prepared. However, in his opinion, Putin is getting what he wanted.
