In an interview with The Sun, this was expressed by the Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom in 2014-2017 Michael Fellon.
Although the ceasefire in Ukraine seems closer than ever, Felllon does not believe that it will put an end to the fantasies of the Russian dictator Putin about the revival of the Soviet Union. That is why, in his opinion, NATO should make these fantasies impossible.
The politician complained that one third of the Alliance has not even spent 2% of GDP on his defense, although they agreed on the Russian invasion of Crimea. According to Fellon, today 3% of defense costs should be a minimal bar for everyone.
According to him, European countries should stand on their feet and stop relying on the US on security. This in particular means the development of their own European intelligence aircraft, missile defense systems, satellite intelligence, filling aircraft and more.
“Russia has violated previous Budapest and Minsk agreements, so any new peace agreement must be secured by firm guarantees of its observance,” the ex-Minister stressed.
According to him, Europe should maintain a constant state of readiness to respond to any violation of peace with Russia.
“Russia has numerical military power and has adapted its industrial economy to soften the worst sanctions. It has learned lessons from the last three years, constantly adapting its tactics and equipment,” Felllon says.
According to him, this means that even if there is a settlement in Ukraine, Russia will “remain a constant threat to its former satellites and other countries near its borders.”
Peace prospects in Ukraine According to UNIAN, its own army is the main guarantee of peace and security for Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the Chief of Staff of the Third Assault Brigade Petro Gorbatenko. He is convinced that after the war, the state should fit in the construction of the Armed Forces so that it does not have to meet again the enemy with one machine.
However, he believes that Russia will not be able to survive unless he returns the status of the empire. Without a world -class hegemon, the Russian state will not last long.
