This was stated by the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, in an interview with the Associated Press.
He noted that Zelensky should quickly deal with the corruption scandal surrounding Energoatom, because this situation plays into Russia’s hands. At the same time, Stubb called on European leaders to continue and, if possible, to strengthen financial and military support for Kyiv, despite the corruption scandal.
“I’m not very optimistic about achieving a ceasefire or starting peace talks, at least this year,” Stubb said, adding that it would be good to “get something going” by March.
In order for peace to prevail in Ukraine, Trump and European leaders must increase the pressure on Russia and Putin as much as possible, changing his strategic thinking, the Finnish president said. For now, Putin remains on his initial positions, which deny the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, says Stubb.
The Finnish president is convinced that the West should use hundreds of billions of dollars of frozen Russian assets stored in Europe to support Ukraine. He also spoke favorably of the American sanctions against Lukoil and Rosneft. At the same time, Stubb added that more needs to be done so that Ukraine can strike at the Russian military industry, probably alluding to the transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles.
War in Ukraine: strategic situationAs UNIAN wrote, most observers tend to consider the capture of Pokrovsk by the Russians inevitable, but strategically not very important. Military expert Samuel Ramani believes that the main danger of losing the city for Ukraine is a decrease in morale, while the front in general will not be strategically affected by this event.
Meanwhile, German military expert Julian Röpke believes that Ukraine is heading for a strategic defeat. Slowly but steadily, Russian troops are advancing on the front, while the Ukrainian authorities and Western partners, in his opinion, behave as if they are not aware of the strategic danger.
