“It is proposed to provide that a person may be deprived of a state award of Ukraine by a court conviction or a decision of the NSDC”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
According to Yaroslav Zhelezniak, People’s Deputy from the “Voice” faction, 283 parliamentarians supported the draft law.
On August 10, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the document in the first reading. It is proposed to provide that a person may be deprived of a state award of Ukraine based on a court conviction or a decision of the National Security Council.
In July, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, initiated a draft law on the deprivation of state awards for popularizing or propagandizing the Russian Federation or committing other illegal actions against Ukraine. This applies to those who received state awards of Ukraine, including the Hero of Ukraine, the Order of Merit and others.

The issue of depriving a number of people who supported Russia of state awards has been discussed for a long time. For example, the ex-director of Motor Sichi Vyacheslav Boguslaev, who since October 2022 is officially suspected of aiding the aggressor state, collaborative activities, has the title of Hero of Ukraine.
Also last year, a petition demanding to deprive Yury Boyk of the title of Hero of Ukraine received 25,000 votes. In his response to her, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi pointed out that there are no legal grounds for this.
