This aid is the seventieth tranche of weapons the Biden administration will provide to Ukraine from the Defense Department’s stockpile starting in August 2021.
“This Presidential Arms Reduction Authority (PDA) package, with an estimated cost of $275 million, will provide Ukraine with additional capabilities to meet its most pressing needs, including: ammunition for missile systems, artillery, and anti-tank weapons,” the statement said.
In particular, as part of the aid, Ukraine will receive:
- ammunition for highly mobile artillery rocket systems (HIMARS);
- 155-mm and 105-mm artillery ammunition;
- 60-mm and 81-mm mortar mines;
- unmanned aviation systems;
- tube-launched optically tracked and guided (TOW) missiles;
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank complexes;
- firearms and ammunition;
- equipment and ammunition for demolition works;
- means of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear protection;
In September, US President Joe Biden announced the allocation of a total of $7.9 billion in US aid to Ukraine within the framework of the Ukraine Security Promotion Initiative.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, as of October 15, the United States has allocated more than $59.1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.
