According to her, this proposal was discussed at the interdepartmental meeting on veteran policy and social protection of the military.
“On January 1, 2025, the deadline for voluntary return to service from the SZH expired. The idea is to extend this term (by exactly how much is the subject of discussion),” said Vereshchuk.
She said that the discussion of this issue is already ongoing with the defense committee of the Verkhovna Rada. Among other measures to solve the problems of the SZH, it is proposed to “more actively involve recruiters from combat units,” Vereshchuk emphasized.
“If someone succeeds in successfully returning a soldier to the ranks, then people should be allowed to work and supported in every possible way (by the way, do not allow a situation where a unit agreed to take a person to their home after the SZH, and they send them to another unit),” added Vereshchuk .
In August, the Parliament of Ukraine approved a law that proposes not to punish the first voluntary desertion of a military unit (SZCH) or desertion, if the soldier returns on his own and the commander allows him to continue his service.
And on November 29, the law on the voluntary return to service of those who voluntarily left the military unit or deserted for the first time entered into force. It provides that, during the martial law, servicemen who first voluntarily left the military units, but later voluntarily arrived at the place of service, the validity of the contract continues. Cash payments are also being renewed.
