“I will say: earlier the Russians intended to seize all the administrative borders of four regions. Now they have abandoned these requirements and, except for one place, they remain within the lines of collision,” he said.
Fidan shared that during the third round of negotiations in Turkey between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, specific positions of each of the parties were presented for the first time. According to him, they were discussed at the meeting of US President Donald Trump with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
The Turkish Foreign Minister noted that Russia now wants to get control of the entire Donetsk region, as well as keep positions along the line of contact in the Zaporozhye region.
“The fact that they (Russians – UNIAN) have said it and agreed that it will be guaranteed by a security mechanism, in fact, offers something truly wonderful. It provides the basis for this war, which has been going on for almost four years. There are aspects of this that is difficult to accept both countries, especially Ukrainians,” the diplomat said.
Fidan also acknowledged that in the event of loss of Donetsk region, Ukraine would be more difficult to protect the rest of the territories. According to him, international security guarantees will help stabilize the situation and promote dialogue.
