Photo ua.depositphotos.comPhoto ua.depositphotos.comThe Ukrainian metallurgical industry during the war faces many challenges. The main among them are the lack of staff through the war, the trading barriers that the Ukrainian industry faces, and the introduction of an ecological duty SVAM, which threatens Ukraine in six months. This was told by GMK Center analyst, Candidate of Economics Andriy Glushchenko.

He noted that the consequences of the introduction of SVAM for Ukraine will be very disappointing – while we have the right to delay its introduction. This requires more active work of the Ukrainian government.

“In the future, the consequences of the introduction of SWAM will be disappointing. And, unfortunately, we have not yet seen the active position of the Ukrainian government of this issue. There were some promises regarding negotiations with the European Union, regarding delay and any special conditions for the use of Swam to Ukraine. Glushchenko emphasized.

He also recalled that even now, during the war, 28 different protective measures in different countries of the world are operating against Ukrainian metallurgical products. A quarter of these measures was introduced more than 20 years ago, and they are not even abolished now – even though Ukrainian metallurgy is not threatened.

It is known that before the full launch of the European CBAM duty is a little less than a year. And if Ukraine does not receive a deferral, in the next couple of years, according to the Federation of Employers, it will lose $ 4.7 billion exports and $ 2.7 billion investments. Also, according to analytical centers, we can lose 6.4% of GDP by 2030, and more than 116 thousand jobs.

The Ukrainian authorities have already started negotiations on delaying this duty for Ukraine, but there are no results yet. Businesses and experts urge the government to speed up negotiations – because our country is definitely entitled to defer under EU law.
