“There are no L-159s and there will not be any. This is a closed issue,” Idnes quoted him as saying.
Babis also sharply criticized the statements of the Chief of the General Staff, Karel Rzegka, who publicly supported the idea of supplies.
“It would be better for Karel Rzhegka to remain silent,” he said.
According to him, Rzegka questions the words of Defense Minister Jaromir Zuna, who said that the army needs these planes. “He should decide on his position, he should know who he belongs to. I don’t understand why Mr. Rzegka opposes his minister, it’s not normal,” Babis said.
He called the controversy about the possibility of supplying L-159 aircraft to Ukraine an artificial problem and rejected any further discussions about the possible sale of these aircraft to Ukraine.
Czech L-159 aircraft for UkraineThe President of the country Petr Pavel first spoke about the transfer of Czech training fighters L-159 to Ukraine during his visit to Kyiv. Then he noted that such fighters would be very effective in the fight against drones.
However, the Czech government did not support the president’s proposal. Prime Minister Andriy Babish stated that his country will neither sell nor transfer light combat aircraft to Ukraine for free.
At the same time, the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of the Czech Republic, Karel Rzegka, confirmed that the transfer of four L-159 aircraft to Ukraine will not harm the defense capability and security of the republic. The general recommends that the government give them away for free.
