According to the correspondent of UNIAN, Prime Minister of the Portuguese Republic Luiz Montenegro said this during a joint briefing with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

Answering the question whether the Portuguese military will participate in the security forces of Ukraine, he noted that “we don’t want to be here during the war.”

“But Portugal participates in the Coalition of the Willing. And will participate in peacekeeping operations. And in the context of the peacekeeping mission, in the context of security guarantees, NATO together with the Portuguese military can deploy its forces on the territory of Ukraine,” Montenegro said.

He also added:

“For example, together with Latvia, Lithuania we can participate in peacekeeping missions and ensure security. Thus, President Zelensky also knows that Portugal will always support and participate in peacekeeping missions and security missions.”

At the same time, the prime minister added that “this has not yet been foreseen”.

“But when this issue is considered, Portugal will always be able to participate in them. Currently, Portugal is providing assistance in the field of underwater drone development, and in the future, of course, we can participate in ground operations to ensure the security of Ukraine,” he said.
