This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen on the X network. As von der Leyen stressed, any credible and sustainable peace plan must first stop the killings and end the war, while “not sowing the seeds for future conflict.”
“We have agreed on the necessary basic elements for a fair and lasting peace and sovereignty of Ukraine,” Von der Leyen emphasized.
In particular, she singled out three of them:
- borders cannot be changed by force;
- there can be no restrictions on the armed forces, because this “will make the country vulnerable to future attacks and thereby undermine European security”;
- the central role of the European Union in ensuring peace for Ukraine should be fully reflected.
“Ukraine must have the freedom and sovereign right to choose its own future. It has chosen the European future. This will begin with the reconstruction of the country, its integration into our single market, into our defense and industrial base, and finally, joining the Union,” Von der Leyen stressed.
She noted that the European Commission will continue working with Ukraine, together with EU member states, the Coalition of the Willing, and the United States to achieve real progress on the way to peace.
According to her, it is very important that “we move forward as partners, in the same direction.”
At the same time, the critical point of any agreement should be the return of every Ukrainian child abducted by Russia.
The US “Peace Plan” for UkraineAs reported by UNIAN, consultations of advisers of Ukraine, the USA, Germany, France and Great Britain began in Geneva (Switzerland), at which Washington will present its 28-point “peace plan” for Ukraine.
Earlier, leading European countries called the US proposals unacceptable.
Zelenskyi approved all relevant directives for the work of the Ukrainian delegation in Switzerland. As the President of Ukraine emphasized, it is necessary to make sure that nowhere in Europe and the world the principle that crimes against people and humanity, against states and peoples can have some kind of reward and forgiveness prevails.
