According to journalists, when Dan arrived at the meeting of the European Council, he was “unofficially” asked whether Romania is ready to seriously consider the scenario of unification with Moldova.
“At the moment when the majority in the Republic of Moldova wants it. We are not there yet,” answered the head of Romania.
The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu Soyuz, for her part, said that “the union with Romania will be one of the ways to guarantee the Republic of Moldova that it will remain part of the free world and live in peace, especially in the current regional and international context.” However, she said that she did not discuss the issue of unification with European leaders and reiterated that the country will focus on EU membership, as currently there is no common opinion among the Moldovan electorate regarding the union with Romania.
Moldova and Romania: the latest newsAs reported earlier, the adviser to the President of Romania on relations with Romanians in the diaspora, Yevhen Tomak, said that Bucharest is ready to “seriously discuss” unification with Moldova. He reminded that Romania officially declared its readiness to discuss in the 2018 parliamentary declaration.
In turn, Moldova is developing a reintegration plan for the self-proclaimed Transnistrian Moldavian Republic. According to Vice Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Kiver, this plan is being developed jointly with the EU and the USA.
