Stubb said this in an interview with the German publication Spiegel.

When asked how he envisions NATO four years after the end of Trump’s presidency, the Finnish president expressed hope that the organization would be even stronger then.

“I hope that then we will see an even stronger one. But it will definitely be NATO with American membership, I don’t doubt it for a second,” Stubb said.

He explained that “in no other alliance can the United States so reliably and so cheaply organize its security and interests in Europe.”

“Believe me, this calculation works for the United States, no matter how high the contributions of other NATO member countries are. Therefore, I am optimistic that in four years our alliance will become even stronger – and maybe then Ukraine will also be a member of our circle,” – added the leader of Finland.

Trump’s NATO policy: current newsAs UNIAN previously reported, even before Trump became the US president for the second time, the governments of European countries expressed concern that if he returned to the White House, he could not only permanently stop aid to Ukraine, but also deliberately destroy NATO.

European diplomats advised European capitals to “do some planning” and review current defense capabilities in light of Trump’s threats to the transatlantic alliance.

It also became known that in connection with the coming to power of Trump, NATO began to share some of its secret data with defense enterprises and the countries of the European Union in order to convince the industry to increase the pace of weapons production.
