“By the next NATO summit, the document says, the alliance should prepare a project of a joint strategic doctrine regarding Russia”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
The resolution also supports the so-called victory plan, previously presented by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi. One of the points of this plan provides for a formal invitation of Ukraine to NATO.
According to sources, the non-public annex to it also refers to Ukraine’s request for the supply of American Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 1,600 or 2,500 kilometers (depending on the type). The resolution of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly does not mention Tomahawk missiles, but the supply of air defense systems, long-range precision missile systems and fighter jets to Ukraine is supported. The document also contains support for attacks on military facilities on the territory of Russia using Western weapons for the purpose of self-defense.
Before the next NATO summit, the document says, the alliance should prepare a project of a joint strategic doctrine regarding Russia, which should emphasize the ability to confront Moscow militarily and expand the sanctions regime in order to undermine its ability to wage aggressive wars.
The document has a recommendatory nature and is not mandatory. It was approved amid fresh escalation after the US and its allies authorized Kiev to launch long-range strikes on Russian territory and the Russian military allegedly struck the Pivdenmash plant in Dnipro with an Oreshnik medium-range missile.
Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov said on November 26 that the West should have “heard” Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who said that Oreshnik, which can also be a carrier of a nuclear warhead, could also be used for strikes by NATO countries that supply weapons to Ukraine .
On November 26, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council is also taking place in Brussels, among other things, devoted to the discussion of the Russian attack on the Dnipro. NATO allies have previously condemned it, calling it an escalation.
