“The Ukrainian side consistently and firmly emphasizes the need to strictly observe this principle. The war is taking place on Ukrainian soil, so it is Ukraine that will determine the parameters of the path to a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace. It is in the interests of all peace-loving states to end the Russian aggression against Ukraine with respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, international law, the goals and principles of the UN Charter,” said the statement of the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Tykhoi, to RFE/RL.
Earlier, Tusk, commenting on the details of the possible plan of US President-elect Donald Trump to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, said that in the near future declarations may come from the United States regarding the date of the ceasefire and security guarantees for Kyiv.
At the same time, Tusk emphasized that “decisions regarding the war in Ukraine cannot be made through the heads of not only Ukrainians, but also ours,” writes “Polish Radio”.
Earlier, The Telegraph, citing Trump’s entourage, reported that the newly elected US president may call on European and British troops to secure an 800-mile (over 1,200 kilometers) buffer zone between the Russian and Ukrainian armies as part of a plan to freeze the war between the two countries.
According to the publication, the plan is one of several being considered by Trump, who before his election as US president said he would begin peace talks before taking office in January.
The president-elect’s plan, reported by three Trump staff members, calls for the current front line to be frozen and Ukraine to agree to delay its NATO ambitions for 20 years. In return, the US will provide Ukraine with large quantities of weapons to deter Russia from resuming the war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on November 7 that he did not know the details of Donald Trump’s plan to quickly end the war between Ukraine and Russia and that he had not discussed it with him.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that after being elected president, he will be able to stop the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours.” Both in Moscow and Kyiv, these words were commented on with skepticism. The Washington Post newspaper previously wrote about the details of Trump’s alleged peace plan: it is claimed that he wants to put pressure on both Moscow and Kyiv in order to force them to make peace at the price of Ukraine giving up part of its territories, and Russia giving up other of its demands. Trump has not officially confirmed that this is the plan.
