These plans envisage scenarios for the backup supply of gas to settlements and the introduction of restrictions on supply to various types of consumers. Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk announced this during the briefing.

According to him, more than 14 backup gas supply schemes have been developed.

“For this, we use the planning of gas distribution according to high, medium and low pressure. Next, we group according to the typology of settlements, we group categories of consumers – household, non-household, industrial consumers who have reserve types of power supply,” explained Kolisnyk.

The deputy minister added that the department has developed a gradation of consumers in case of a local or national level of danger and explained how the supply of “blue fuel” can be limited.

“How does the mechanism work? First, pressure limitation in this system is (carried out – UNIAN). Second – (carried out – UNIAN) localization of the consequences,” he said, adding that during localization, damaged gas infrastructure equipment is being repaired.

When asked about the sequence of gas shutdowns in case of gas shortage, Mykola Kolisnyk noted that the supply of “blue fuel” to the population will be limited as a last resort. The deputy minister commented:

“Yes, the population is the last line of restrictions… The population is a guaranteed consumer in the sense of security.”

Mykola Kolisnyk added that the situation with providing gas to the population also depends on the number of gas supply points from high-pressure pipes to a certain settlement – the more there are, the higher the level of reliability of providing the city or village with the resource.

Attacks on the gas production infrastructure of UkraineRussia intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure. On the night of November 8, the ninth targeted attack on the gas infrastructure of Naftogaz of Ukraine since the beginning of October took place.

Due to massive Russian attacks, Ukraine was forced to increase gas imports and planned to pump 4.6 billion cubic meters of “blue fuel” into gas storage facilities.

After the latest attacks, the need to import gas has increased. On November 3, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that Ukraine needs another $750 million to purchase gas.

Russia’s attacks on gas infrastructure, according to unofficial data, have already destroyed approximately 60% of gas production.
